7.12 "Europe: Continent of Reconciliation? 40 Years into Willy Brandt's Visit to Warsaw"
On December 7, 2010 it will be 40 years to the day that the German Chancellor Willy Brandt knelt down before the Monument of the Heroes of the Ghetto in Warsaw. This was a historic gesture without precedent. It is remembered as sign of accepting responsibility for the crimes of Nazi Germany, as a symbol of rapprochement in the German-Polish relationship and as a major step towards easing tensions between the blocs within the framework of Brandt's "Ostpolitik". To commemorate this turning point, the Warsaw Office of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation in co-operation with the Warsaw Center for International Relations will hold an international conference in Warsaw on December 7, on "Europe: Continent of Reconciliation? 40 Years into Willy Brandt's Visit to Warsaw". The event will focus on Willy Brandt's detente policy and the relevance of his core political concept today. Please register through our conference homepage www.40-jahre-ostpolitik.de
The conference will be translated into German, English and Polish.
